Virtual Post-Intervention Speech and Language Assessment of Toddler and Preschool Participants in Babble Boot Camp

Summary by Nancy Potter, PhD

Babble Boot Camp (BBC) is a parent implemented speech therapy approach for babies and toddlers who are at risk for speech and language disorders. BBC begins when babies are between two and six months of age and continues until the child is 24 months of age. BBC speech therapy focuses on developing prespeech and early speech skills and may be delivered virtually or in-person through weekly 15–20-minute sessions with parents or caregivers. In the BBC clinical trial, the children who received BBC speech therapy performed significantly better on standardized speech and language assessments than the untreated controls with the same genetic risk for speech and language disorders. This article discusses strategies and adaptations for successfully administering standardized speech and language assessments for follow-up with children at 30 months of age.
