Professionals must set up an account on the Apraxia Kids website and then complete a multi-step process including receive a passing score of 80% on an objective quiz and complete several short answer questions which demonstrate a foundational knowledge in assessment and treatment of children with apraxia. This better ensures that those in the directory have the understanding, skills, training, and experiences to be successful with children with apraxia. In addition, directory members are required to document 6 hours of continuing education credit in the field of childhood apraxia of speech every three years in order to remain on the directory.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, there is no fee for SLPs to be listed in the SLP Directory. This unique list ensures that SLPs with experience in treating childhood apraxia of speech are accessible to the families that need them, including school-based SLPs, SLPs in clinics, and SLPs in private practice.
The directory is not inclusive of all therapists experienced in childhood apraxia of speech. We are continually working to reach out to therapists across the US and Canada who have skills, training, and experiences to be successful with children with apraxia.
We encourage you to check out our local Resource Guides for a university clinic in your state that may have someone who has some expertise in CAS or who can help guide you. You may also wish to find the closest Speech-Language Pathologist in the directory and see if they are willing to be available for collaboration/consultation with a local therapist, provide a treatment plan, and/or provide teletherapy services.
If you know an SLP who is currently treating children with apraxia of speech, invite them to complete the process to be listed in our directory by sharing this link. The more qualified SLPs who know about this resource, the easier it will be for families to find the help they are seeking.
