I am DTTC (Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing) certified and use this approach for treatment of CAS, including short, frequent treatment sessions (3-5x/week), incorporation of sensorimotor cueing, and focused target words to promote quicker carryover to everyday speech. I like to be creative with therapy sessions to make it as fun as possible for the child, and enjoy taking a highly personalized approach - for example first focusing on family members' names, favorite activities, core vocabulary words that will help them communicate functionally as soon as possible.
As an AAC (Augmentative-Alternative Communication) specialist, I also advocate for early introduction of communication devices to allow a child to express themselves while verbal speech is developing.
I always encourage families to participate whenever possible; no matter how frequent speech therapy, the child is at home the vast majority of the time and this is where "communication magic" happens! I also like to work with families to select the most meaningful target words to work on at each stage and provide training to carry over communication strategies at home.
I am a certified Assistive Technology Professional, and have used a wide range of low-, mid-, and high-tech devices to support children with CAS. I provide full AAC assessments beginning with a personalized feature-matching approach to determine the most appropriate system to meet the individual's needs, often incorporating Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) principles to facilitate communication development. I am not fluent in ASL, but support using sign or any other communication method that helps the child express themselves most efficiently.
