My therapy style is play-based, incorporating the child's interests frequently! While we're eager to get in those frequent practice trials, I often incorporate words and phrases that are highly motivating to my client. I encourage families to be an active participant in session, as they feel comfortable, and will eagerly provide coaching to ensure parents and caregivers feel comfortable to try strategies at home.
Providing input on words and phrases that are going to be most meaningful for your child and your family. In addition, keeping me in the loop about your child's most recent interests so that we're able to incorporate those into session, encouraging your child to stay motivated to practice and participate.
Incorporating both throughout ongoing sessions, especially focusing on AAC when children are having a tough day with their vocal targets or having those communication breakdowns. Utilizing AAC myself to communicate with them and ensuring that I'm showing clients how we can utilize both oral communication and AAC to be funny, get our needs met, and comment!
