The Principles of Motor Learning are the basis of treatment of children with CAS. I use a multi-sensory approach in therapy sessions. These techniques will be modeled for use outside of the session with caregivers. I use a variety of tactile, visual and verbal cues to elicit motor-speech attempts. I will incorporate functional and motivating vocabulary as speech and language targets in therapy sessions. I give feedback on communication attempts in the session. Therapy sessions at the beginning of treatment will focus on repetitions of the motor movements of speech. As therapy progresses the children will need less support so cues will be faded. Therapy activities will be motivating and active to keep the child engaged.
