My treatment approach takes into account several factors. The availability of the parents is always a major issue when making recommendations. Private services in conjunction with school services are necessary at times to fulfill the frequency that is needed for these children to make gains. The approach is based on the severity of the CAS. I typically use a multi- modal approach using DTTC, PROMPT and the KSP hierarchy at times and sometimes a select vocabulary. AAC is also always a consideration.
The evaluation process is simple: a phone call away: 724-765-1010, make your appointment with me, bring supporting documentation from previous therapists, and a script from the child’s PCP is needed along with insurance information. Only one person is permitted to be with the child in the room.
Parents are asked to be a part of their child’s treatment and involved in sessions so they may carry-over the techniques needed to aid their child in becoming a functional communicator.
AAC is used with children who fail to gain speech rapidly but need a way to communicate their thoughts and needs. We use any and all modalities including sign language, picture exchange, iPads with apps to high tech speech generating devices.
