I develop an inventory of potential sounds and words to target (to maximize participation and success). I use a play-based approach initially to engage the child in oral and vocal play including potential targets. I gradually increase the speech sound and CV combinations in length and complexity, continually assessing and readjusting goals and strategies to maximize success. I provide multiple repeated opportunities for practice to establish greater consistency and carryover of goals. I monitor other features of communication and address as needed (e.g. prosody, syntax, grammar, etc.). I work with the family members along all steps of the treatment process to encourage home practice of reasonable targets to maximize success.
