I utilize a play-based approach to engage and motivate children while they are working hard on their speech. My treatment approach utilizes the Principles of Motor Learning, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) approach, PROMPT, and use of successive approximations (e.g. KSLP). I create activities around the child’s interest and abilities and combine these activities with mass practice of target words. This allows for the child to have frequent practice and take short breaks while staying engaged and motivated. I focus on what is functional and important for the child and family, and make sure to build a strong rapport and trust with the child and family. I use AAC (e.g. sign language, high-tech AAC device) when necessary to support language growth as speech progresses.
