I always build a trusting relationship with my clients and families. My treatment sessions are guided by my dynamic evaluation and I use a multitude of treatment approaches, as determined by the client. I use the DTTC, ReST, Multiple Oppositions, Minimal Pairs, and Kaufman methods to support the components of motor planning. Targets are strategically chosen based on functionality and the clients current repertoire of sounds and syllable shapes. I utilize a variety of cues at different levels that are faded as quickly as possible while encouraging a high number of repetitions for each target word and motor plan.
I involve parents as much as possible. I provide take home ideas based on what we work on during our sessions including targets words and motor plans. Parents are always welcome to sit in our sessions if they so choose. I make sure parents feel comfortable with our therapy plan and know that I always encourage open communication. Camp Communicate is also another way I involve parents.
I have used both low tech and high tech AAC devices/methods. Pictures and communication boards are most helpful for students with CAS when needed temporarily. I have also supported high tech devices including ProLoQuo2Go and Dynavox I-series for students who are more severe and may need support for a longer period of time.
