When working with a child with CAS or suspected CAS, I want to make sure first and foremost, they feel safe and know that my therapy sessions are a place to grow! Regardless of if they are 2.5 or 6, children with CAS can get easily frustrated because they know what they want to say so I choose target words that appear frequently in their life! It will look different for each child and I work with the family to constantly include what makes the most sense for them. I want the parents to feel in the know and understand why I am doing something. I make sure to leave time for questions, especially since I travel to child's home or school (if I go to their daycare, I discuss with parent what method of communication works best for consistent updates). Lastly, we make it fun by bringing toys and materials that will motivate them but also get high trials in. I try to set up the session in an efficient way so they leave feeling confident and also challenged.
