I work on lists of single words of various syllable shapes (CV, VC, CVC, CVCV, etc.) that are common nouns, verbs, and favorite items of the child. I often utilize the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol providing multi-sensory cues, fading cues, block to random practice and mass to distributive practice. Working with children with CAS, it is often helpful to simplify words to a syllable shape or age appropriate phonological process they can produce more easily. By helping them simplify words, they are able to label and request more often using a vocalization. In my practice, I utilize strategic reinforcement and errorless teaching to allow more successful trials. I work with parents and Board Certified Behavior Analysists to provide my clients with multiple opportunities to produce vocalizations throughout their day, and generalize skills to different environments.
