Overall Treatment Approach:
My therapy sessions are fun and functional. Children learn to use words that will be the most useful to them. Children learn the power of communication to get their wants and needs met. I use a variety of treatment approaches to help children learn to use new sounds and blend the sounds into meaningful words. I use picture supports and visual and verbal prompting to help children achieve their highest potential.
Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to help the therapist create goals that are meaningful and functional for their children. They are encouraged to observe the therapist in therapy to encourage carryover of language and strategies used in the home environment. Parents will also be provided with a Home Program.
AAC Use/Implementation Expertise:
I have experience with several AAC systems. I support using AAC with all children to bridge verbal communication. I am very knowledgeable with the Core Vocabukary approach. I have seen the benefits of AAC and am motivated to help families find the system that is right for their child.
