I believe it's important to meet the child at their present level, to develop trust as communicative partner with the child in child led, play based intervention. By establishing successful syllable structures and word approximations they may currently be using, we will begin to build onto that with improving the shapes of their sounds and adding new sounds to them based on the movement patterns needed to make the syllable/word sound like the adult target. I will access a variety of evidence-based techniques relying on visual, verbal and tactile cues to find the one your child best responds to in that moment or I might combine multiple techniques to find the right combination for your child's success. I utilize a combination of movement across syllables, using real words and neolexical (novel) word combinations to provide opportunities for learning the movement and to be successful in a fun and engaging learning environment. Combining syllables becomes creating words, combining words to phrases and then sentences. The goal of therapy is always finding a way for the child to communicate by requesting, commenting or protesting.
