Every child has a natural propensity to communicate. I work with young children with CAS to become effective communicators through the use of the principles of motor learning. Treatment sessions are play based, while incorporating multi-sensory cueing strategies as well as repetitive motor planning techniques and frequent practice opportunities. Each session is individualized to meet the specific needs of the child. I work closely with an occupational therapist and often incorporate strategies to assist with a child's sensory integration in order to maximize vocal communication. I am trained by the PROMPT Institute, The Speech EZ Apraxia Program as well as Nancy Kaufman on the use of her Speech to Language Protocol. Target words and syllabic combinations focus on speech movements that are attainable and within the child's phonemic inventory. AAC devices are utilized when indicated as well as PECS, sign language and visual cues to increase communicative opportunities.
