Small Talk Baltimore follows a specific therapy protocol to treat children with CAS. The therapy protocol focuses on improving movement, as opposed to improving the production of single sounds. Small Talk Baltimore uses the principles of motor learning to treat CAS and recognizes the need for many trials and lots of practice. Targets are chosen based on results from your child’s assessment, as well as by choosing words that are salient and meaningful to your child. Therapy sessions are lots of fun at Small Talk Baltimore, but focus on using quick reinforcers to get the maximum amount of trials during each session. Small Talk follows a DTTC hierarchy to teach words including: (1) simultaneous production, (2) immediate repetition, (3) delayed repetition and (4) spontaneous production. Small Talk loves to include parents and guardians in the last few minutes of each session. We will show you what we worked on and assign some homework to complete during the week!
