My therapy is based on Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) which is a treatment method designed for children with childhood apraxia of speech. DTTC Uses the principles of motor learning to facilitate movement transitions in speech. Essentially what this means is cues are used to help teach how to move the articulators for speech. A most to least cueing hierarchy is used. Maximum multisensory cues are given and then faded as speech skills progress. A typical session uses fun reinforcers such as bubbles, balloons and ball poppers to help get the maximum number of speech targets.
Each child is unique and progresses accordingly. I want home practice to be positive so I do not want words practiced at home to be in error. Home practice is often a 2-5 words a student is producing with minimal cueing.
AAC helps children communicate and decreases frustration. I use both pictures, sign and communication devices to help students have a voice while they are in therapy. AAC helps children communicate and decreases frustration.
