I currently mainly work with Early Intervention. Therefore I do a very modified version of Kaufman.
With older children I do a variety of techniques but mainly follow the Kaufman technique (simplifying word patterns and then shaping them to more complex syllable patterns.)
I work mainly with early intervention. Therefore parents are with me the entire session. I model activities with the child's toys and toys I specifically brought. I leave a plan for family to work on strategies for the week. This may include structured activities such as cards and pictures for a child who can handle that structure or activities family can implement during their daily routinesl
Since I mainly work with the under 3 population I mainly use low tech AAC. I do sign language, gestures, picture cards, photographs and some early communication boards. Since a child is very young, I use AAC minimally to decrease frustration and to teach a child language function. Early on the main focus is having a child use verbal language.
