I believe in a multi-sensory, multi-modal approach using research proven techniques. I include AAC as needed to augment communication. I have received training through Apraxia Kids’s BootCamp, Bridging Level of PROMPT and include those approaches in my treatment session
Parents are encouraged to be present at all therapy sessions, active participants in the session as appropriate and complete home exercise program(s) to facilitate their child’s progress in speech and communication. I believe strongly that parents make a difference and need to be well educated in what approaches are being used with their child and be able to support those approaches.
I believe in a patient-family approach with parents being active participants in the therapy and home exercise process. I have found a total communication approach using AAC systems (low and high tech), in addition to working on speech development, very effective in meeting the communication needs of children with CAS. I have completed numerous DME submissions for children to acquire speech generating devices and am very familiar with the process to acquire a high tech AAC system. A team approach with collaboration on goals, speech & communication development should be integral component to therapy.
