Therapy is individualized to meet the specific needs of each child and family. I work with the family to develop functional targets for the child that they can be successful at and can be carried over into the home and other areas of life. Therapy is play based when appropriate and uses the child's interests to keep them motivated and engaged. I incorporate the principles of motor learning and DTTC to facilitate motor learning.
Parents are a huge part of the therapy process. Parents are always welcome to sit in on sessions and if they do not want to do so, a re-cap of the session along with takeaway is always given at the end. I educate parents on techniques I am using and encourage them to participate when appropriate.
For my preverbal clients I typically incorporate signs to assist in communication. I also use choice boards as appropriate. I work with a representative from a well known AAC company who can provide high-tech devices as needed.
