As a highly experienced SLP working with children with motor speech disorders, I provide assessment and treatment based on the Principles of Motor Learning and a combination of research-based approaches shown to be effective for children with CAS. The goal is always improved speech motor skill, increased intelligibility, improved language skills and increased social competence. I am currently focused on a consultation/parent training model that includes differential diagnosis, identifying co-occurring disorders, developing CAS specific treatment plans, and providing high levels of parent support. Most importantly, I strive to build motivation, social reciprocity and trust with each young client I meet.
Parents are my partners in every aspect of the process, including obtaining pertinent information, sharing diagnostic impressions, and developing treatment plans to be shared among family and providers. Parents in my practice share their concerns, engage in discussions on CAS and other pediatric speech disorders, and receive the information needed to maximize their child's potential, including advocacy.
I am an advocate for the appropriate use of AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) to facilitate effective communication in both home and school settings. While maintaining my focus on improved speech production/intelligibility, I support the use of AAC to reduce frustration and increase opportunities for building language, academic and social interaction skills. When indicated, AAC evaluations are recommended as part of the overall treatment plan.
