As a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience working in early intervention with 0-3 year old's, preschool age children, and early elementary school students, I feel that it is important to challenge children to grow with their movement patterns while building their self confidence and keeping their self worth intact at such a young age by utilizing appropriate levels of challenge based on their progress. With toddlers and preschool students, incorporating movement and breaks are necessary to increase engagement in order to accomplish the high numbers of motor repetitions that are needed in order to establish new motor patterns. I use a combination of DTTC-with visual cuing, PROMPT-tactile cuing, and prosody work throughout therapy and collaborate with parents to aid in the generalization of these skills once a child has established accuracy in therapeutic practice.
