I typically start on working on phonation for some of our non-verbal children and build language based on the child’s current speech repertoire. Based on the child’s sound inventory, I would work on a developmental sound hierarchy with block, randomized and high frequency sound training. I progressively transition into more complex sound patterns and increase sound motor planning exercises.
Parents are given home programs and are required to sit in on sessions and participate toward the last 10 minutes of therapy time.
I would use AAC in conjunction to CAS verbal therapy. I would use ASc by focusing on communication and continue to help the child develop verbal speech through our intensive speech class.
