My therapy sessions are child-led and play-based. I enjoy focusing on the child's interests and creating an environment where the child can practice functional therapy targets that are motivating to them through play. I prefer that parents actively participate in our sessions to promote generalization of skills to all environments.
I highly encourage parents to sit in my therapy sessions and actively participate in their child's care. By engaging directly in our therapy sessions, parents are able to learn tools, strategies, and techniques to better support their child at home in the natural environment. I encourage parents to provide input regarding their child's speech progress and value their ideas and suggestions on how to best help their child.
I encourage multimodal communication for all clients to ensure successful communication. I have used signs, gestures, pictures, and speech-generating devices with children with CAS in the past. Each child's needs are different and not all children respond to the same approach, so I am open to introducing any method of AAC that will aide in facilitating effective communication.
