My therapy is always fun, always motivating, includes lots of practice, and very supportive. I use a combination of table and floor games that the child likes, but also activities that allow for lots of speech practice. My kids always know what they're practicing and why, and they work hard to pay attention to my supports.
Caregivers are a big part. Caregivers are a part of our vocabulary selection, they are always present in some component of my sessions and get comfortable practicing with their child. Caregivers are always informed of the therapy progress, each session's highs and lows, and what they can do for home.
I like to incorporate visual supports of any kind during my sessions to help empower the clients in their communication while we're working on their speech goals. It looks differently with every child. It can be a picture board of the toys that they can choose from by pointing to what they want, it can be a board of common words they might want to communicate, and often it's also a picture display for home of favourite things the child might ask for but at this point can't (places, people, foods, activities). I always encourage to empower the child's communication and use AAC supports to build the language skills.
