Apraxia assessment, treatment and therapy is highly child and family centered. Parents and I work together to determine joint goals to facilitate the best outcomes for their child. We start therapy by determining what consonants/vowels, syllable shapes and movement transitions your child has in their repertoire and determine FUNCTIONAL targets from there. I use a variety of evidence based cueing strategies (DTTC) to elicit movement transitions and facilitate new speech motor patterns. AAC is also used from the onset of therapy if needed to support a "whole-communication" approach to language acquisition. I also provide extensive parent education and assist parents in becoming confident in helping their child with strategies and techniques to facilitate generalization outside of the clinic. I am also a fierce advocate for my clients and will work with all of the members of your child's team to facilitate motor speech, language and social communication goals.
