My therapy for children with CAS takes on a personalized and family centered approach. I will meet your child at their developmental level incorporating targets that are most functional for the child and incorporate their interests. An engaged child will always make the best gains. I work closely with the family to ensure they are comfortable with concepts of motor learning so that you get the most our of your practice time at home. We will also work together as a team to determine targets that best meet the needs of your child.
Following an assessment, I will take time to meet with parents to discuss the findings and explain exactly what therapy will look like for their child. Together we will discuss next steps for your child and parents will be part of planning specific targets (words or phrases) we will work on in therapy. At times in our sessions, parents will take on the lead as the "teacher" especially when we are working towards generalizing targets. I want parents to be part of the process and the fun!
AAC is a means of communication I often recommend for my clients. AAC can be a wonderful means of communication as your child builds the clarity of his/her speech. AAC can reduce the frustration your child is experiencing when he/she is not being understood. AAC can be used in conjunction with CAS therapy.
