As a PROMPT certified Speech and Language Pathologist, my approach involves active engagement from parents and caregivers in their child's therapy process. With PROMPT,I utilize tactile and kinesthetic cues to guide speech production movements. By gently providing cues to the face, jaw, lips, or tongue, I help create and organize sounds, words, phrases, and sentences. The principles of motor learning are applied across sessions to fade support and ensure generalization across environments.
My therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment, using a System Analysis Observation to understand the unique speech movements, structures, and functions of each child. This evaluation informs the development of personalized treatment goals and priorities, which I discuss with parents across treatment. Incorporating the child's interests and functional targets ensures that therapy sessions are both engaging and motivating. Verbal and visual cues and play based therapy is also a part of my approach creating shared joy across our therapy sessions. My extensive experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and certification in the LAMP Program enable me to effectively implement alternative communication devices for families and clients.
I prioritize ongoing parent education and home practice, empowering families to feel confident and informed about their child's speech therapy journey. Through regular re-assessment, I update treatment goals as needed, continuously guiding the child forward in their speech development. Together, we can support your child's progress every step of the way.
As part of my practice, I firmly believe that parents are integral partners and experts on their children. They actively participate in therapy sessions, engage in home practice with their child, and provide invaluable feedback to ensure consistency and progress. By prioritizing education and collaboration, all parents leave sessions equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to support their child's speech development journey both within and beyond the therapy room.
I’ve utilized various Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods to support children with CAS. Over the years, I have worked with families and implemented a variety of AAC programs tailored to each child’s unique needs and abilities from high tech programs of TouchChat, LAMP, Unity, Proloquo2Go to low tech options such as communication boards, activity boards, PODD etc. I'm dedicated to helping every child reach their full communication potential, and AAC is a powerful tool in achieving that goal.
