Apraxia Kids: What are the top 3 things you learned from this training experience?
Jenn: 1. Increased knowledge of diagnostic tools that allow for thorough and comprehensive assessments that cater to each individual child. 2. How to incorporate science and research into practice. 3. A greater understanding of differential diagnosis.
Apraxia Kids: How did the boot camp experience change or expand your network of colleagues/friends?
Jenn: My network now includes a community of professionals who also have a passion for supporting children with CAS and their families! So happy to have met such a knowledgeable group of researchers, mentors, and treating SLPs to collaborate with!
Apraxia Kids: How have you implemented the knowledge you gained at boot camp?
Jenn: After completing Bootcamp, I began using a variety of evaluation tools within my private practice. This allows me to provide accurate and specific diagnoses that guide therapy decisions.
Apraxia Kids: What is an example of how you have been able to (or plan to) use your expertise as a local resource/support for other professionals and/or families since attending the intensive training?
Jenn: I participate in community events such as the Apraxia Walk and hope to make connections with parent groups and universities to provide expertise, knowledge, and support.
Apraxia Kids: What would you say to someone considering applying to boot camp next round?
Jenn: Do it! The four (intense) days of Bootcamp helped to both affirm the areas that I already felt competent in, and show me the areas that I wanted to continue to grow in. If you are interested in advancing your skill set as a provider to this very special population, this is the training for you!
