August 2024 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

What a busy summer it has been here at Apraxia Kids. It is hard to believe it is the beginning of August as summer winds down and we are preparing to head back to school.

Just last month, Apraxia Kids hosted the 20th National Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania bringing together 374 in person and 291 virtually to learn from leading experts. We are so grateful for our speakers, sponsors and most of all attendees for helping us make this Conference a huge success. If you have not seen our 20th Anniversary video highlighting the Conference over the years, we encourage you to check it out. As we plan ahead, we are excited to announce that our 2025 National Conference will be fully virtually allowing for more families and professionals to attend from around the globe! More details will be shared later this fall.

Walk season is in full swing with 62 in-person events this fall. We hope that each of you will join us this fall as registration is free for everyone! It has never been easier to invite your friends, family, and community to be a part of your Walk team in support of your Apraxia Star. We also continue to offer our Virtual Walk if there is not a Walk event in your community making it easy to Walk wherever you are.

The Walk for Apraxia inspires hope, whether you are a new family seeking information and support or a family who has been on this journey for a while. The main focus of our walks is celebrating each Apraxia Star and all their accomplishments throughout the year. It is a time to raise awareness, meet other families, have lots of fun and support the mission and programs of Apraxia Kids. We hope you will join us this fall!

Do you have a child 12 years and older? If so, we invite them to join our NEW virtual peer-to-peer support groups with Elina Csapo, an Apraxia Star! This virtual support group meets on Sundays at 7pm Eastern. Elina provides a safe place to discuss each weekly topic such as “what song represents apraxia” or “what are our superpowers”. These topics start the conversation but you never know where the conversation may go! You can register your Apraxia Star here!

We are pleased to share that our new Library Be the Voice Kit will be available starting Monday, August 12th. If you have a local library in your area or a school library and would like to donate a kit to share additional resources about childhood apraxia of speech and Apraxia Kids, we encourage you to visit our website for more information. As you prepare for back to school, we encourage you to visit our Parent Portal and IEP Roadmap filled with information as you navigate a new school year.

We are truly grateful for all that you do to support Apraxia Kids; large or small, makes a difference. Thank you for your continued support of our organization, our mission and our vision. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
