communication is the foundation to build strong healthy relationships. Communication does not come naturally for some children whether it be with their speech and/or language. I am here to help bridge those gaps between ineffective and effective communication so our children can reach their highest potential.
My therapy sessions are structured, fun and functional for each individual child and family. I have targets prepared for each session. My children are allowed to pick what item/target they want to work on first. I use massed practice with specific feedback and cues. I start with the most hands off amount of cueing and provide as much cueing as each child needs. I use a variety of CAS evidence based strategies including PROMPT, DTTC and OPT.
Targets, progress, strengths, weaknesses are discussed at the end of each session and home practice is recommended for each child and family whether it be indirect family practice or direct child focused practice.
I use a combined approach of individual treatment and parent coaching. I believe this allows each child to grow independently from their parent and with their parent and family all in one. Parent coaching/collaboration allows for functional targets and communication tailored to each child and family. I provide clearly structured sessions, target motor patterns, high functional targets for a determined period of time, checks in on progress, parent coaching and how to work on targets at home directly or indirectly depending on client needs. I use open communication to determine effective treatment and am open to parent questions, request, etc..
Each session consists of motor targets as well as a functional means of communication through AAC to allow them to have a voice and express their basic wants/needs/ideas. I use of a core language board and/or a more complex communication system complimenting the functional targets tailored to each individual child and activity.
