I offer dynamic, individualized therapy tailored to your child’s unique speech profile, focusing on strengths, needs, and interests. Keeping sessions enjoyable is key to maintaining engagement and minimizing frustration. Therapy builds on your child’s existing sounds to expand their repertoire of meaningful words and phrases, utilizing evidence-based techniques such as simultaneous production, direct and delayed imitation, and multimodal prompts (physical, visual, and gestural) with extensive practice. Progress is systematically tracked across sounds, syllables, words, and phrases, with cues gradually faded as independence grows. In addition to sound production, we address speech rhythm and monitor language skills to support overall intelligibility.
I view parents as essential partners in the therapy process, recognizing that no one knows your child better than you. Together, we’ll set meaningful goals that incorporate words and phrases important to your family. Your involvement, as your child’s first teacher, is invaluable. A key benefit of home therapy is the chance to incorporate your child’s favorite toys, activities, culture, and customs into our therapy sessions. When appropriate, I may assign practice activities to reinforce gains outside of therapy. Open communication and adjusting therapy to fit your child’s needs within the family context are central to my approach.
When a child's language skills exceed their speech production abilities, augmentative communication devices can offer valuable support. After assessing your child’s needs and discussing options, we can explore different systems together. Some children benefit from sign language or low-tech tools, like pointing to objects or using picture boards. High-tech devices, such as iPads or specialized tablets, often provide the most effective and flexible communication, with voice output and customization options for personal topics like pets or favorite activities. AAC serves as a vital outlet for expression, reducing frustration and easing pressure as speech skills develop.
