I have been an Early Intervention Speech-Language Pathologist for over 10 years and firmly believe that the child's parents/caregivers are their first and best teachers. I am the SLP, but we are a team and I fully embrace the parent coaching and training model that Early Intervention promotes. First, I focus on the family's routines and the child's strengths and interests to choose therapy targets. Then I provide direct treatment to the child and modeling, coaching and training to the parents so they feel empowered to successfully help their child communicate outside of therapy sessions. I use a total communication approach (signs, AAC apps, gestures, sounds, pictures, etc.) to build a child's confidence in communicating. I incorporate play, music, art, movement, sensory activities (and anything else the child likes!) into my therapy sessions to keep the child motivated and engaged. Therapy with me takes place anywhere the child is engaged and motivated to communicate (virtually or in person).
