Overall Treatment Approach:

I have found that my therapy approach changes drastically from child to child based on individual need and interest. Sessions with younger children are typically play-based, while sessions with older children are designed to elicit maximal repetitions with varied cuing to maintain a high level of accuracy. Families are always encouraged to observe or participate, and I always teach families how to implement strategies for practice of targets with cuing at home.

Parent Involvement:

I always like to tell parents that I am just a small part of their child's progress. I teach parents how to support their child at home, and parents essentially become their child's therapist. Ideally, I love to have parents engage in therapy sessions; however, I know not all children work best in this manner. If parents are not participating in therapy, I always conference with parents after each session so parents know what to target and how to cue their children at home.

AAC Use/Implementation Expertise:

I have used both low tech and high tech AAC for children with CAS and enjoy helping children find their voice with this total communication approach. Examples of low tech AAC that I have used include core words, picture cards, and Go Talk. I have attended trainings by LAMP, Saltillo/NOVA Chat, and Dynavox/TD Snap.
