Congratulations to Rebecca Linke, MS, CCC-SLP, for graduating from the Apraxia Kids Intensive Training Institute (Apraxia Boot Camp)!

Rebecca has been a practicing speech-language pathologist for over 30 years working with the pediatric population. She has held a variety of roles and responsibilities while working in schools, early intervention, academia, and outpatient clinics. Specific interests include CAS, Autism, and Down Syndrome. She has spent numerous hours in trainings and continuing education conferences developing her knowledge and skills addressing her interests. She has earned the Award for Continuing Education from the American Speech Hearing and Language Association three times and has been recognized by Apraxia Kids for Advanced Training and Expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Rebecca volunteers with an adaptive inclusive sports program and with the Texas Speech and Hearing Association.

Apraxia Kids: What are the top 3 things you learned from this training experience?

Rebecca: 1. There is a strong community of other SLPs who are passionate about CAS. 2. I know a lot, but I have a lot to learn. 3. There are several tools that will lead to a more confident diagnosis of CAS.

Apraxia Kids: How did the boot camp experience change or expand your network of colleagues/friends?

Rebecca: Listed in the question above. I have many people I can reach out to if stuck or needing some guidance and support.

Apraxia Kids: How have you implemented the knowledge you gained at boot camp?

Rebecca: I have included a lot of the assessment knowledge to help me make a strong diagnosis. I have helped my colleagues understand and treat CAS. I am more confident in my skills overall and can talk with parents and professionals helping them to understand about CAS.

Apraxia Kids: What is an example of how you have been able to (or plan to) use your expertise as a local resource/support for other professionals and/or families since attending the intensive training?

Rebecca: I have done an in-service/training for my colleagues at work. I am looking into presenting for my local speech and hearing association.

Apraxia Kids: What would you say to someone considering applying to boot camp next round?

Rebecca: Go for it! But be prepared. It is hard but well worth the knowledge, skills, and friendships you will leave with.
