Earnie Sotirokos: VP of Digital Strategy

What brought you to Apraxia Kids?

I had not heard the word “apraxia” before I started working with this organization in 2014. I knew I wanted to work someplace that was making a difference in the world. In the decade since I first started in our original one room office, I can safely say that goal was accomplished. It has been a joy and a privilege to play a small part in helping children with apraxia of speech find their voices.

What is the biggest impact Apraxia Kids has had on your life?

Aside from the organization being very supportive of me as an employee, the biggest impact on my life has been watching kids with apraxia of speech grow and thrive. I’ve seen so many Apraxia Stars succeed personally, academically, and just generally in life. Young children who received medals at our Walks to acknowledge their hard work at speech therapy have used that determination later in life. They have flourished as social workers, advocates, cyber security experts, production managers on major motion pictures, and, perhaps my favorite, speech-language pathologists.

Do you have any advice for the apraxia community / someone just starting on their journey?

Apraxia Kids can be a force multiplier for information, education, community, and support on your apraxia journey. Take advantage of everything the organization has to offer locally in your area and explore our extensive resources available online

Do you have a personal connection to apraxia?

When my time started with Apraxia Kids, I did not have a personal connection to apraxia. Now I have many from all over the U.S. and around the world. The durability of the connections I’ve made in the apraxia community is something special that I’ve never had at any other place where I’ve worked.

How has your contribution made an impact on the apraxia community?

I think the digital infrastructure that I’ve had a hand in building has made a substantial impact for those in search of information about CAS. I’m especially proud of how our organization instantly pivoted during COVID and didn’t miss a beat in providing services to our families and professionals.
