My therapy protocol involves families. I value their input and view them as an equal team partner. We decide on outcomes jointly. I use a coaching model with direct treatment embedded within. I make sure families are comfortable with strategies and have the opportunity to practice in real time and I provide direct feedback. I choose a small set of targets (maybe 3-5 words) based upon the results of the assessment. Targets are meaningful words and are practiced within functional and high interest activities. I aim for multiple opportunities for practice within sessions. I secure the child's attention, may provide tactile and/or gestural cues and give verbal feedback. I work with the family to determine what motivates the child. Speech is hard work and I try my best to make it fun and engaging based on the child's interests and individual needs.
