Isabella is a compassionate SLP who implements a family-centered approach. She provides direct play-based child services focusing on principles of motor planning by implementing Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC). She pairs this evidence-based treatment approach with visual/verbal/tactile cues that help the child with sequencing speech movements. I elicit ample practice of selected words in child preferred activities, provide multi-modal direct and specific feedback on a child's production, and move dynamically up/down the DTTC cueing hierarchy. I also target varied rates of speech and prosody during sessions to allow for more varied and natural speech production.
Isabella may integrate Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) early into treatment to establish an intelligible form of communication. AAC systems (i.e. signs, high tech AAC device, low tech AAC core boards) may vary depending on the child's and family's needs. AAC can support clear communication to help eliminate frustration and support language development.
Overall, Isabella's goal during treatment is to empower families to know how to support their child's speech development. She does this by assisting families in a play-based, child-led, neurodiversity affirming, and routines-based intervention through parent coaching and consultation.
Isabella utilizes a family-centered and routines-based intervention to coach parents on practical strategies to support their child's speech development. With services taking place at home or in the community, Isabella asks parents to be present during sessions and implement strategies coached into their daily routines. We will work on functional language, and I rely on parents to inform me of important words in their life. I often make a "words list" with families in the beginning of therapy to know what words would be impactful for their child to say.
Isabella establishes a form of communication early on with caregivers and children with CAS. Isabella has experience trialing AAC devices, funding AAC devices, and working with children with CAS on integrating AAC into their daily communication. Isabella coaches families and caregivers on what AAC looks like and how to integrate it into their routines. AAC can support clear communication to help eliminate frustration and support language development.
