As a highly specialized speech-language pathologist with advanced training in Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), I provide expert, individualized therapy to meet your child’s unique needs. My approach integrates the principles of motor learning and includes advanced training in Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), PROMPT-based techniques, Kaufman methods, and Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST)—ensuring effective, tailored intervention.
With over 17 years of experience at Cincinnati Children's, the nation's top pediatric hospital, I have successfully treated the most severe cases of apraxia and provided continuing education on speech motor disorders for other clinicians. I offer comprehensive assessments to accurately diagnose CAS and distinguish it from other speech sound disorders.
I work closely with a multidisciplinary team to address the full range of developmental skills—such as sensory processing, attention, and engagement—essential for speech growth. My goal is to build confident communicators through therapy that is both effective and enjoyable, helping your child find their voice.
Parent involvement is an essential component of my therapy approach. I believe in empowering parents by providing the clinical reasoning behind all the strategies I use so you can understand how they support your child's speech development. I work with parents to ensure that these strategies can be easily integrated into your daily routine in a functional and effective way.
Each session includes homework that might involve adapting games, encouraging speech during common routines, reading books, completing worksheets, playing digital games, or engaging in other fun activities to get your child using their speech. The goal is to make practicing speech as natural and enjoyable as possible in your home environment.
In addition to activities for your child, I also provide coaching on various cueing methodologies that you can use at home. These might include visual, touch, cognitive, and gestural cues that help reinforce speech production and promote progress. Parents are encouraged to be an active part of each session, as your involvement is critical for success. By working together as a team, we can ensure consistent and meaningful practice both in therapy and at home to foster speech growth for your child.
I welcome all forms of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Speech-Generating Devices (SGD) into my therapy sessions. I strongly believe in using a total communication approach, where your child is encouraged to express themselves in multiple ways, including through verbal speech and AAC/SGD. This approach provides your child with options to get their thoughts out, enhancing communication and supporting speech development.
While the primary focus of my sessions is to target specific verbal speech skills, I see AAC/SGD as valuable tools to help build and reinforce these skills. I have experience incorporating the use of AAC devices into therapy, and I work with children to integrate them in ways that align with their individual needs and goals.
