During therapy Christy focuses on use of evidence based practices such as Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC), use of tactile/touch cues, and use of ReST (Rapid Syllable Transition Training) while providing meaningful and motivating therapy activities in order to keep children engaged. Christy recognizes that this is hard work for her clients, and so we make it fun and motivating! The goal during therapy is to have mass amounts of correct productions and correct movement patterns while incorporating practice variability ("say if soft, say it loud, say it sad, say it mad, ask a question") in order to support generalization, maintenance of skills, and for change to occur. Christy takes into consideration the severity of Apraxia and incorporates distributed frequent practice with mass amounts of trials to best support her clients.
Parents are asked to occasionally join our sessions. Parents are asked to implement homework when appropriate. Parents are free to ask any questions at any time as Christy recognizes that parents are the most important members of the communication team!
Christy has implemented low-tech AAC such as American Sign Language and low tech functional communication boards to use in therapy and at home. Christy is a member of the LAMP Words for Life App Partner Program which requires attendance at an AAC and Autism LAMP training and additional training on implementation of the app.
