At Glass Speech Therapy, our therapeutic approach is rooted in play and connection. We are passionate in utilizing neurodiversity affirming practices, assuring that each child feels comfortable being their authentic self. We believe that each child deserves a treatment approach that is both evidence-based and tailored to their specific needs and abilities. Speech targets are chosen with both the child and family in mind, ensuring that the targets are highly relevant and important to the child’s life. Therapy sessions are centered around play, allowing children to obtain high amounts of practice while having fun. Multimodal cueing is used to help your child be as successful and independent as possible, without causing unnecessary frustration.
Parent involvement is key for children with apraxia of speech. Parent coaching and education is providing on an ongoing basis, as it is important that the family feels knowledgeable and educated about CAS. Families can expect to be active team members- helping to select target words and treatment goals, sitting in on or participating in sessions, and helping to further progress through guided home practice.
I have used AAC to support the communication needs of children with apraxia of speech. AAC is discussed early on in treatment, as it is important that the child have a method of communication they can rely on while verbal speech is targeted. I will guide the family in selecting and obtaining a high or low tech device, depending on the needs of the child.
