I work with your child in a fun and supportive environment, using games, activities, and exercises that are tailored to their specific interests and needs. My goal is to help your child learn new motor plans in order to coordinate the movements of their mouth, lips, and tongue to produce speech. I'm PROMPT trained, and incorporate multimodal communication, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems (AAC). I also focus on nurturing their self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to express themselves more effectively in their daily interactions. With consistent therapy sessions and dedicated practice at home, your child will achieve significant progress in their speech development and overall communication skills.
Parents have a vital role in the therapy process, and their active participation is highly valued. Right from the start, during the initial assessment, parents will be involved and share valuable information about their child's speech development and concerns, which helps shape a personalized treatment plan with meaningful goals. Parents are encouraged to join and participate in therapy sessions, either in-person or virtually, so that they can continue practicing the techniques and strategies at home. Consistent intervention between sessions is absolutely essential. My aim is to provide targets that are meaningful and can be practiced during daily activities at home.
In my therapy sessions, I integrate AAC, which can include both low and high-tech options, to support children with CAS. AAC is a powerful tool to help children express themselves effectively, especially when speech is challenging. Low-tech AAC involves using simple communication boards, or even gestures and signs. I introduce visual supports and encourage children to sign/gesture to communicate during sessions. For high-tech AAC, I am most familiar with the Proloquo2Go app. I incorporate it into therapy by modeling its use during our sessions. I show children and parents how to use the app to express themselves. I'm also here to assist families in getting started with AAC devices or programs, including helping them set up and customize the AAC system that might be most suitable for their child.
