Obtain core and power words for child through parent interview.
Choose 5-10 targets based on list obtained from parents, sound inventory, and syllable shapes.
Sessions will include blocked or varied practice and a high number of frequency trials.
Dynamic temporal and tactile cueing (DTTC) and principles of motor learning will be used for speech motor learning. DTTC allows for a continuous shaping of the movement gesture. The steps of DTTC will be used to work towards spontaneous production. Steps include direct imitation, repetition after delay, and simultaneous production. Feedback will be provided for the child based on accuracy of production. Once child is successful at a normal rate, it is also important to vary prosody.
Parents provide list of functional words they would like child to produce. Parents have the opportunity to observe me use DTTC techniques in therapy. They are provided with target list of words to practice at home.
I have paired sign language with verbal output. I have also implemented a high tech SGD for the children that have severe CAS. PML are still used to encourage verbal speech in conjunction with device.
