Hello! When treating a child with CAS, I use the principles of Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing. This means showing them and helping them to make sounds by using lots of repetition, cueing them to look at my mouth, look at their mouth in the mirror, as well as using hand cues or gestures to assist. We work to build up the number of sounds they can make and the number of contexts in which they can make those sounds, increasing in difficulty to harder syllable shapes as they progress. I often introduce AAC to help alleviate communication frustration, especially in very young children. I work with parents to come up with a list of words that are realistic and practical for their child as a next step and we work heavily on that small set of words. I give parents carryover activities each week and they have access to me via text or email throughout the week if they have questions.
