My therapy approach integrates child-centered target words in a play-based setting while facilitating high repetitions of correct word productions. I work to find highly motivating activities so that therapy is both productive and fun, no matter the severity of the child. I collaborate with parents to choose target words and provide education for carryover of sounds and language strategies for home.
Parents will be highly involved with target selection, as I want to use functional/frequent words in the child's life to create meaningful goals. Parents will also be given written information and detailed home programs once sounds are added into the child's repertoire.
I introduce AAC as early as possible, with a robust vocabulary system that allows for ample language growth for all my patients with CAS. I can provide AAC evaluations (along with an occupational therapist) to determine the best communication system for each child, integrate the device into therapy sessions, and provide parent/family education for carryover.
