With over 20 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with pediatrics, my first priority is building a fun and trusting relationship with your child and you. CAS is hard. Building a relationship helps your child make quicker progress as they trust me to help them learn to do hard things. I take a family involved, child-centered approach so every session is individualized to your child’s goals, abilities, and preferences. I deliver fun and engaging therapy that is meaningful to the child/family's life while also being founded in evidence based therapy approaches. I highly encourage families to be a part of our therapy sessions, especially when working with children with CAS. Education and training for parents is an essential part of my therapy process to support ongoing development of skills learned in therapy sessions. Children with CAS have a special place in my heart and I am blessed to be able to serve this community and be their biggest cheerleader.
I highly encourage parents to be in the session with their child. As part of the therapy process, education of CAS is vital. As I work with children with CAS I also educate families on the "what" and the "why" of therapy and CAS so they have a better understanding of their child's struggles and strengths. Parents play an important role in helping drive targets (words) in therapy that are meaningful to their child as well as knowing how to carryover learned skills in their child's everyday life. Therapy of CAS is not just for the child but for the family as a whole.
Communication is a vital part of one's life. I have experience with low tech (signs/pictures) as well as high tech (communication devices) and have used them as a short-term solution for a child's communication when verbal speech is being developed. I have helped children and families navigate these methods if necessary. I have many years of experience with programming and teaching communication with AAC for various diagnosis. For children with CAS, verbal communication is my ultimate goal.
