After a dynamic assessment which allows me to determine the child's current levels, we build off of what they are already producing. I primarily follow the DTTC method and use gestural, visual, and verbal cues. We do a lot of repetition and I try to keep up the child's motivation with quick reinforcements! The treatment varies greatly depending on the child's individual productions, ability, motivation, and attention!
Parents are very involved! I teach parents how they can help their child practice at home with current goals. I show them the cues we use and techniques I found beneficial. We consult on important words for the child and discuss concerns. Parents are updated after each session on progress or they can observe therapy. I consult with parents on school goals and IEPs as well.
We use picture sentence strips to make simple sentences to request/comment and negate/confirm. We also use words from the strips to practice on. Sometimes the children have a big page with important pcitures of words on them so they have some sort of functional communication.
