I make sure to make sure my therapy approach matches the age and level of the child. My therapy is usually a combination of child-led play based therapy and structured drill based therapy. I work hard to find what motivates the child I am working with in order to allow them to get in as many trials of target words and movement patterns during the session.
Parents are encouraged to observe sessions in-person or via videos so they can understand how to best help their child at home. I send home "words of the week" and other helpful practice materials.
I have worked with children who use an AAC device to communicate (in addition to speech production), as well made simple topic boards to help younger children request basic wants/needs to decrease frustration when their speech production is limited.
