I believe coordinated care across environments is the key to a child’s success. I am a strong proponent of a family’s involvement with all aspects of assessment and intervention. When planning goals for a child I believe each child is unique and plan for each child best on their individual strengths and needs.
Parents/caregivers are involved in that they are given feedback and data after every sessions. Parents/caregivers also help determine functional word goals when a child is first learning to communicate. Parents/caregivers are given things to work on between every session. Each child also has their own binder that contains their target words.
We are very fortunate to have extremely knowledgeable experts on AAC in our area. For children who AAC is appropriate we involve these professionals. Much like goals, a child's need for AAC is unique and highly individual.
