I involve parents as much as possible. Realistically, not all parents can sit in the therapy session. I provide weekly and monthly thematic take home ideas. The handouts include the list of possible target words and ideas on how to add onto the words, activities that can be implemented in the home, various themed books, and free/low-cost apps if the client enjoys playing on the tablet. I understand the hectic nature of everyday living. I coach parents how to look for and offer communication opportunities providing practice within their daily routine. I provide interaction strategies (e.g. increased pause time, asking fewer questions, providing more modeling). If needed, I offer support with programming and augmentative device implementation.
