My overall treatment approach varies depending on the individual's needs. For example, for a child of three who is 50% or less intelligible, I would start with word forms that he/she is able to produce and increase the repertoire of sounds by adding vowels and other consonants. I incorporate Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) as well as cues from the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol as needed. AAC is incorporated when a child becomes too frustrated and is of age to understand how to use a device to communicate simple wants and needs.
